The South Americans have injury worries too, with Diego Godin unlikely to feature in the quarter-final in Johannesburg on Friday night.

Gyan, who has netted three times in the tournament, said: “My ankle is a bit swollen but I do not think it is too serious. I will be ready for Uruguay.”

However the Black Stars might be without Kevin-Prince Boateng, John Mensah and Samuel Inkoom – all of whom are battling injury – as well as suspended duo, defender Jonathan Mensah and midfielder Andre Ayew.
