Tuesday’s papers are of course dominated by talk of England and Fabio Capello’s future, but one man who won’t be replacing the Italian is Roy Hodgson who is close to finally joining Liverpool.

Hodgson has been listed as one of the favourites for the national job but the Daily Mail claims he will be appointed Liverpool boss “before the end of the week”.

Harry Redknapp has already said he would like the England job but that hasn’t stopped Tottenham being linked with a couple of players in Tuesday’s papers.

The Mirror claims that Redknapp has “stepped up” his bid to sign Joe Cole ahead of Arsenal, while the Mail says that both Spurs and West Ham will hold talks with Julio Baptista’s agent this week over a proposed return to the Premier League. You might remember the Brazilian (now at Roma) from his mixed spell at Arsenal.

All this on the back of news that Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed Spurs’ £28.35 million bid for star duo Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani.

Elsewhere, we come to a man who has scored more goals than any other player in Champions League history, a European football legend, who could be off to Blackburn Rovers.

Sam Allardyce is planning an audacious move for the 33-year-old, but faces stiff competition with the MLS still the most likely place for the Spaniard to pick up his pension. (Daily Mail)

Manchester City always play a roll in this column and the Mirror reckons they are close to wrapping up a combined £100m swoop for Yaya Toure, David Silva and Edin Dzeko.

They also claim City’s proposed move for James Milner has hit a snag.
