Manchester United lead race to sign Arsenal and Tottenham target Mesut Ozil

July 30th, 2010

Manchester United are lining up a £12million bid for Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The Werder Bremen star has attracted interest across Europe, but according to the Manchester Evening News, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is readying an offer to bring Ozil to Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly prepared to wait until January to discuss a deal in hope of singing him on a free.

But Ferguson is keen to get the jump on his old nemesis, with Arsenal and Tottenham also interested.

Ozil caught the eye at the World Cup in South Africa with a number of impressive performances in Germany’s run to the semi-final.

And Werder Bremen are prepared to negotiate a fee with any pursuers before the transfer window closes, instead of losing him for nothing next summer.
