Ashley Cole is desperate to quit Chelsea after England’s World Cup disaster.
Spanish giants Real Madrid have put together a package to sign the £30million-rated Chelsea left back Cole this summer and are extremely confident of getting their man.
Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed a left back top of his wish-list – and this week they have stepped up their battle to sign Cole even though Chelsea do not want to sell.
Cole, 28, wants a fresh start after his divorce from pop star wife Cheryl and the fall-out from the World Cup has only made him more determined to move abroad.
Real Madrid have sounded out his representatives, made it clear they are willing to beat his current £120,000-a-week wages while his strong relationship with his former Blues boss Mourinho is another major factor.
Cole, who signed a new four-year deal with Chelsea last September, is disillusioned with his life in England and wants a fresh start.
He is alleged to have even sent a message to his friends from his Blackberry as he headed home from the World Cup which said: “I hate England.” He is now believed to have received death threats.
England left back Cole, 28, feels he was hard done by in the media despite being exposed as a serial love cheat during his marriage.
His anger and now the English public turning on Fabio Capello’s World Cup flops has made him more determined to go.
Cole could be the first of several England players to move abroad, with Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard also wanted by Real, Rob Green a target for Schalke while AC and Inter Milan are interested in Joe Cole.
