AS the unstable weather conditions continued to put a damper on most local football leagues across the island, former champions Excelsior High carried their winning streak in Group C of the Digicel/Pepsi Manning Cup to five yesterday, after scoring a 3-0 win over Papine on another rain-affected day to stay atop the group with maximum 15 points.
On a day where only two matches were contested, Brian Richard (12th and 53rd minutes) netted twice for the Leebert Halliman-coached boys, while Zhelano Barnes (61st) got the other.
The visitors dominated the game from the opening whistle, but only had Richard’s early first-half strike to show for it.
After the restart, the midfielder scored from a melee after the home team’s defence failed to clear from a corner.
Barnes sealed the win just past the hour mark when he fired into the roof of the net from 14 yards after being teed-up by Juvanne Benjamin.
The team’s topscorer Benjamin also had a number of chances to add to the tally, but he was rather wasteful in front of goal.
In the day’s other match, Kingston Technical and Innswood High played to a 0-0 draw.
